If you have been patiently awaiting news on a potential new installment of Black Mirror after the critically acclaimed season 7 dropped on Netflix last year, creator Charlie Brooker has the exact update your have been waiting for.
While speaking with Netflix's Tudum in a new interview, Brooker exclusively announced that Black Mirror season 8 is officially on the way. The Emmy Award-winner simply revealed the renewal by saying, "Black Mirror will return, and hopefully it’ll be more Black Mirror than ever."
Black Mirror season 8 renewed at Netflix
Brooker didn't share any details about what kind of stories to expect from Black Mirror season 8, though we can anticipate him to once again pull from the darkest, most chilling dangers of technology advancements. He celebrate the renewal and teased that he's already inspired.
"Luckily it does have a future, so I can confirm that Black Mirror will return, just in time for reality to catch up with it. So, that’s exciting. That chunk of my brain has already been activated and is whirring away," Brooker told Tudum about getting started writing new episodes.

Oddly enough, Netflix hasn't been calling the forthcoming installment "season 8" just yet, but Deadline has confirmed that Netflix has renewed the beloved series for a new season. Since the renewal arrives so fresh at the beginning of 2026, additional details are scarce, including who will star in the new episodes, how many there will be, when filming begins, and a release window.
It's unlikely that Black Mirror season 8 will make its premiere by the end of 2026 because the development process on season 8 remains in early stages. There were two years between seasons 6 and 7, and before that, season 6 dropped four years after season 5. For now, we should expect the new episodes to arrive sometime in 2027 at the earliest, though we could be waiting longer.
Black Mirror season 8 comes on the heels of another successful run for the series. The seventh season landed 10 nominations at the Primetime Emmy Awards, including nods for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and recognition for Rashida Jones' performance in "Common People." Season 7 is also up for three awards at the Golden Globes on Jan. 11, including Best Limited Series and nominations for Jones and Paul Giamatti, who starred in "Eulogy."
The long-running series, which first premiered in the UK back in 2011, maintains its status as much-watch television that everyone rushes to when new episodes drop. There's no doubt that even after season 8, Black Mirror could still enjoy a long, bright future with even more seasons, standalone releases, and more thought-provoking brilliance from Charlie Brooker.
