Marvel hit a grand slam with the first season of The Punisher. Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Frank Castle, the former Marine who is dealing with the aftermath of the murder of his wife and two young children was utterly spellbinding. The show is about pain, grief and loss and Bernthal perfectly captured those emotions in the series. Viewers first saw him play the character in season 2 of Daredevil and he was so impressive that Marvel and Netflix had no choice but to develop a standalone series about his character.

The show picks up with Frank Castle living under an alias and keeping a low profile after he faked his death in Daredevil. He’s keeping tabs on Karen Page, who was an ally in Daredevil and the two encounter a whole new set of danger in The Punisher.

While Frank and Karen was one (platonic) relationship on the show, the best was the one between Micro and Frank. The name Micro will be familiar for Daredevil watchers after Frank took a CD that had Micro written across the top before he torched his old family home. Turns out Micro knows some secrets about Frank and that’s where the drama jumps off in the 13-episode season.

There’s a government conspiracy, police cover-up, betrayal, sex, drug trafficking, and a whole lot of violence. If that’s your thing, you’re going to love this show.
