As much as we wish all of our shows would remain available to us on Netflix for the rest of time, that's just not the case. Each month, the streaming service removes handfuls of content, both shows and movies, based on licensing deals that are out of the control of the consumer. But on the plus side, Netflix also adds a long list of new releases that are more than enough to keep us busy.
In August 2026, Netflix will debut some of its biggest original series, like Outer Banks season 5 and Leanne season 2, but there's lots more heading for our watch lists even outside of the streamer's original titles. While being spoiled by small-screen additions like a new hit medical drama and a cult favorite procedural, we will also be saying goodbye to a couple great series.
Let's get this list of TV shows coming to and leaving Netflix in August 2026 started with one of the most defining sitcoms of the '90s, which will be removed at the top of the month.
Home Improvement seasons 1-8
Leaving Netflix on Aug. 1
That's right, it's almost time to say farewell to Tim "The Toolman" Taylor on Neftlix. After being added to the streamer back in early 2025, Home Improvement has already spent its designated 18 months on the streamer (as per Netflix's temporary streaming deal with Disney). All eight seasons of the classic '90s sitcom will be removed on Aug. 1, the last day to watch being July 31.
Thankfully, Home Improvement won't be lost to the streaming era. The sitcom remains available to stream on Hulu and on Disney+ with a bundle subscription. That's always the upside to a show being pulled from Netflix, when it has a secondary streaming home. But it's still a bummer that the nostalgic and comforting comedy will no longer be available to fans on Netflix.

Best Medicine season 1
Coming to Netflix on Aug. 4
Sometimes we're lucky enough that Netflix acquires a show from the small screen that's actually new and gives new viewers a chance to catch up before a new season premieres. That's what Netflix viewers have in store when the Fox medical drama Best Medicine, starring The Good Wife star Josh Charles, brings its first season on Aug. 4. There's plenty of time to binge-watch the debut season before the second season begins airing this fall on Fox (and streaming on Hulu).
The Game seasons 1-3
Leaving Netflix on Aug. 15
Another significant removal hitting Netflix in August 2026 is the 2000s comedy series The Game. Even though only three seasons of the series were available to stream, it's still a loss to those who loved rewatching the early years of the fan-favorite. The Game ran for nine seasons, after moving to BET for season 4 and beyond, and was ultimately rebooted on Paramount+ in 2021, but the original seasons that aired on The CW leave Netflix on Aug. 15.

SEAL Team seasons 1-7
Coming to Netflix on Aug. 18
If you're looking for a series you can spend a bit longer with than a weekend binge-watch, Netflix has exactly what you need to add to your watch list in August. The David Boreanaz-led procedural drama SEAL Team brings all seven seasons, which consists of 114 total episodes, to the streamer for the first time on Aug. 18. The action drama, centering on an elite team of Navy SEALs, was a CBS and Paramount+ hit that now has another chance to gain new fans on Netflix.
Talamasca: The Secret Order season 1
Coming to Netflix on Aug. 23
Netflix is adding another recent release, but this one comes with a downside. While it's exciting that viewers will have the chance to watch the AMC supernatural horror series, that also has a bit of a spy thriller element, Talamasca: The Secret Order has already been canceled. There's only one season of the Anne Rice adaptation, making these six episodes coming to Netflix on Aug. 23 the complete series. For those who enjoy Rice's stories, it's still a series worth checking out.
The Sex Lives of College Girls seasons 1-3
Coming to Netflix on Aug. 31
Medical dramas, action procedurals, and supernatural horrors might not be quite your speed, but Netflix also has the perfect alternative for those of us who love comedy, romance, and young adult mess. HBO Max's comedy The Sex Lives of College Girls, which comes from Mindy Kaling, makes its Netflix streaming debut at the end of August. Finally, the underrated series will have the opportunity to appeal to a larger audience and get the credit it deserves. Don't miss out!
