Another selection from Mike Birbiglia on this list gives us his most compelling special yet in My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend where Birbiglia shares his fears, apprehensions and beliefs on marriage and his aversion to the sacred institution.

His relationship serves as the focus of his comedy when his career starts to take off from a struggling traveling comic who’d perform at lip-synching contests at small colleges to begging for time at small bars. When his personal struggles in his relationship begin to bubble to the surface and the audience becomes aware of the sad part that’s about to happen, Birbiglia chimes in with the appropriate, “I know, I’m in the future too.” in his deadpan delivery that sums up his appeal.
