With the original V/H/S already on the list, it may surprise some to see the sequel ranked ahead of the original. What Simon Barrett’s sequel manages to pull off is nothing short of our worst nightmares. Focusing again on footage found of short stories, the film gets scarier and scarier with every passing story. Grainy recorded footage appears again but meshes well with impressive special effects.

My favorite short is called “Safe Haven”, following a documentary about a mysterious Indonesian cult. Surprisingly, things inside the walls of the cult’s building include unexplainable events such as sacrifice, mass suicide, and possibly the Devil himself making an appearance.

This was a movie that stuck in my head and personally troubled me. I wouldn’t recommend watching this movie without a warning of some images that won’t soon leave your memory, if at all. I would regret not also mentioning a horrifying story called “Slumber Party Alien Abduction”, the title is a giveaway but worth your time.
