Devil

Release Year: 2010

Directed by John Erick Dowdle

Starring Chris Messina, Caroline Dhavernas, Bokeem Woodbine

What can go wrong in an elevator in a downtown Philadelphia office building? Apparently everything.  Devil documents five strangers who step into an elevator just like any other day but find out this will be a ride like never before.

M. Night Shyamalan delivers another story with mind-boggling twists and turns, setting up for a final surprise to blow away the audience. Shyamalan also manages to push the limits of claustrophobia as most of the film is shot inside of a cramped elevator.  The element of Satan possibly being one of the five people in the elevator really heightens the intensity of the plot.

Chance encounters between the five characters before getting in the elevator seem harmless, but later the truth may be that there was much more to these small moments. One thing is for sure, taking an elevator or the stairs is a much tougher decision after seeing this flick.
