The Crow

Release Year: 1994

Directed by Alex Proyas

Starring Brandon Lee, Michael Wincott, Rochelle Davis, Ernie Hudson

Eric Draven (Lee) is brutally murdered and his fiancée is raped and murdered a day before they were to be wed on Halloween. Draven is resurrected from the dead when a crow comes to his gravestone. Ready for vengeance, Eric hunts down the gang responsible for the murders.

What really adds to the dark aura of The Crow is the tragic death of actor Brandon Lee on set from defective blanks.  Lee’s death is a mysterious event to this day, and watching the actor in what would be his final scenes is sad but also gripping.

Director Alex Proyas managed to deliver a film that never lets in too much light or positivity. As Draven mows down the crime syndicate, the bodies pile up and the intensity never really lets up either. While not being classified as a horror film, The Crow has enough darkness and death on and off screen to scare the heck out of people.
