What do you get when you combine HP Lovecraft with typical 1980s cheese and snide British humor? You get this masterpiece of a sci-fi film, which is as unintentionally hilarious as it is dark and perfect. Lovecraft, as a story-teller, was a master of the art of science fiction, and this film – based on his story “Herbert West, Re-Animator” – explores the possibilities of what could happen when you bring someone back from the dead. The movie takes place in a medical school, and the “reanimator” in question is, in fact, a doctor in training. Nevertheless, hilarity does, indeed, ensue, albeit unintentionally.
