After watching all of that god-awful, hilariously-so-bad-it’s-good sci-fi, it’s time to cleanse the palate with Embers. This indie, understated sci-fi flick stars Jason Ritter (son of the late, great John Ritter, and a fine actor in his own right) who tries to make his way in a post-apocalyptic world after some neurological epidemic wipes away everyone’s memories of who they are and where they come from.

This film is as powerful as it is delicate and as bittersweet as it is heartbreaking. It’s no wonder, then, that it won several awards at different film festivals, and even got nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.
