Best Horror Movies on Netflix Right Now (2020)
7. Hush
Release Year: 2016
Director: Michael Flanagan
Starring: John Gallagher Jr., Kate Siegel, Michael Trucco
This is one of the better new horror movies to come to Netflix. Kate Siegel plays Maddie, a young talented writer who is working on her follow-up novel. She is deaf and mute after contracting viral meningitis when she was 13. She lives a life of isolation in her secluded home in the woods, which leaves her friends and family concerned for her safety.
Little did they know that Maddie would have a psychotic stalker in a creepy mask preying on her outside her home. The movie is from her perspective and I thought it was brilliant how director Michael Flanagan heightened the suspense and the heart-pounding drama by making us feel the silence Maddie lives with.
There are not many lines of dialogue in the movie, which can be good or bad, depending on your perspective, but it works in Hush for all 81 minutes until the climactic ending that will stay with you for days as you wrap your head around what happened.
Flanagan and Siegel worked together on Oculus, which was featured earlier in this ranking.
