17. Must Love Dogs

Release Year: 2005

Written by Claire Cook and Gary David Goldberg

Directed by Gary David Goldberg

Starring Diane Lane, John Cusack, Elizabeth Perkins, Christopher Plummer, Stockard Channing, Ali Hillis, Dermot Mulroney, Colin Egglesfield, and Jordana Spiro

In the film, Sarah (Diane Lane), a recent divorcee, is trying to get back out there in the dating world and her friend sets her up on a dating website. For the only requirements, Sarah asks that her dates “must love dogs.”

After several failures, Sarah finally meets someone worthy of her time and interest. And, that’s when the fun begins!

Must Love Dogs isn’t exactly a holiday movie theme, but it does take place around Thanksgiving and that proves to be an element in the story. The film is a solid romantic comedy, though, and one of the best rom-coms on the list.

Like a few of the movies on here, you’ll start to get in that holiday spirit with this film, but you don’t get the full, in-your-face Christmas or Thanksgiving plotlines.
