IP Man is a “semi-biographical account” of the Master of Bruce Lee and creator of Wing Chun, Yip Man.
Obviously, the appeal of IP Man is that Yip Man was the master of Bruce Lee, the legendary action movie star and famous martial artist. However, there is a lot more to this movie than originally meets the eye.
IP Man largely focuses on Yip Man’s life during the Sino-Japanese War during the late 1930s and early 1940s. After the Japanese take over Man’s town, he’s forced to fight for his life in a battle with a Japanese leader who is in control of the town.
Honestly, I didn’t think I would like IP Man, but it’s just a great overall movie from start to finish. While the violence and action aren’t exactly what I expected, the plot and story keep it interesting and suspenseful.
If you like IP Man, make sure you check out IP Man II and III, which are also available on Netflix.
