A beloved Netflix original series is leaving Netflix (and fans won't be happy)
By Reed Gaudens
It's time to say so long to a fan-favorite Netflix original series.
Longmire, which was originally an A&E series for its first three seasons, will be leaving Netflix come Jan. 1, 2025. According to a removal notice on the streaming service, the last day to watch all six seasons of the Western crime drama is on Dec. 31, 2024. It's time to sneak in your final binge-watch!
Because of it's popularity with fans, Netflix picked up Longmire when A&E canceled it after three seasons. The streamer produced and distributed three more seasons of the series, which ended in 2017 after a 63-episode run that began back in 2012. To this day, fans have enjoyed rewatching Longmire, and news of its impending removal won't sit well with its most loyal rewatchers.
It's not an unheard of practice for a streamer to remove its own original content, as various streaming services, Netflix included, have been known to purge content over the years. Since Netflix wasn't outright owned by Netflix, rather Warner Horizon Television, that makes Longmire's hop to a new streamer understandable. Thankfully, the show does have a new streaming home.
Where to watch Longmire complete series
Ahead of Longmire's removal from Netflix on Jan. 1, 2025, all six seasons of the series became available to stream on Paramount+ in the United States. If you're a Netflix subscriber who's also subscribed to Paramount+, then you don't have to worry about being without Longmire. You can begin watching as soon as you would like!
For those who aren't yet subscribed to the CBS-owned streamer, a subscription to the Paramount+ Essential tier (with ads) costs $7.99 per month/$59.99 per year, and the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME tier (ad-free) costs $12.99 per month/$119.99 per year. There are constantly money-saving trials and deals available for new and returning subscribers.
If you're a Longmire superfan and want to get ahead of any other potential future removals from streaming services, the complete series has also been released on both Blu-ray and DVD. Currently, the complete series Blu-ray set goes for about $90 on Amazon, while the DVD set will cost a bit less than that depending on the seller. It's a must-have addition to a fan's collection!
While it's definitely bittersweet to be seeing Longmire depart Netflix after being one of the lucky shows saved by the streamer and one of its most loved original series, it's at least encouraging to know it won't be like some shows that are sadly lost in time in the digital age. There are still so many ways to watch, stream, and/or own the show.
