Heading into Beef season 2, we knew to expect a series of scene-stealing performances. What we did not expect was that one of the most unexpected breakouts from the second season of Netflix’s Emmy-winning drama would be an adorable dachshund named Jones.
We first fell in love with Jones during the Beef season 2 premiere, with the adorable pup stealing the show and our hearts while walking the red carpet. In the series, Jones plays Burberry, the dog of the central couple, Josh (Oscar Isaac) and Lindsay (Carrie Mulligan), a beloved member of their family with a penchant for the cutest little sweaters ever.
Fans will quickly fall in love with Burberry, which is what makes the ending of episode 4 so difficult. As the episode ends, Burberry ends up getting out the door when it's left open by another character who had snuck into Josh and Lindsay’s home.
Following his disappearance, Josh and Lindsay begin a search to find their beloved dog, spending the better part of the episode looking for Burberry. While Burberry is eventually found, it’s not a happy ending for the canine character.

Sadly, yes, the dog dies in Beef season 2 (and the show features a triggering moment)
If you’re a dog lover like me, you’re going to want to avert your eyes while watching Beef season 2, episode 5, as the episode features a heartbreaking and triggering sequence that results in Burberry’s death.
Shortly after passing the 24-minute mark of the episode, we see Lindsay out in the woods continuing her search for Burberry. Just as she’s about to call it a night, she hears whimpering in the distance. She follows the sound, racing through the brush until she comes upon a truly devastating scene. A coyote has gotten a hold of Burberry, and the show actually includes footage of the attack as we see the coyote with Burberry seen dangling from the creature’s mouth.
Lindsay runs up to the coyote, which drops Burberry, and we see the injured dog limping away with blood visible on the area where he’d been bitten. Lindsay tries to scare the coyote off, but the creature approaches her, so she takes action by grabbing the coyote by its tail and slamming it to the ground, killing it instantly. After a shot showing the dead coyote, we pan to Burberry lying on the ground, bloody and severely injured from the coyote’s attack.
While Lindsay races him to a veterinary emergency center, the vet is sadly unable to save Burberry’s life.
The sequence is incredibly difficult to watch, and it’s honestly a shame the creative team felt the need to show the attack on-screen. If you’re an animal lover, you might want to skip ahead when you get to this point of the episode, as jumping ahead even just a few minutes can spare you from having to witness the attack that led to Burberry’s death.
