You’re almost out of time to binge-watch this beloved crime drama on Netflix

Every month, Netflix adds and removes a large number of movies and shows, so many in fact that it can be difficult to keep up with what's coming and going. For the most part, it's easier to plan ahead with the latest Netflix new releases and add upcoming additions to your list before they drop. But when certain titles are removed? That's a whole other ballgame.

While titles are steadily added and removed throughout each month, the end of each month brings the most removals for acquired content. You could be binge-watching a show one moment, then suddenly find the series gone from your watch list. If you're in the middle of watching or rewatching the fan-favorite crime drama Prison Break on Netflix, you're running out of time.

Prison Break leaving Netflix in January 2026

Don't let the show's removal from Netflix surprise you. All five seasons of Prison Break will depart Netflix in the United States after Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026. That's the last day to watch the series as it will be gone on Jan. 30. The cult classic series was added to Netflix back in July 2024 per the streamer's licensing agreement with Disney, which allowed for an 18-month streaming period.

In that sense, Prison Break leaving Netflix isn't much of a surprise and had been known from the moment the series was added to the platform. However, it's still a major bummer to fans who had even more access to their favorite show thanks to Netflix. The show was available to watch over and over again on the streaming service for well over a year, but its time is officially up.

Prison Break first made its premiere on Fox back in August 2005 and ran for four seasons. The series ended with a wrap-movie in May 2009, but fans continued to adore the show and maintain its popularity throughout the years. In the midst of revival mania, the show returned for a nine-episode fifth season in 2017, which officially wrapped up the series' run.

The crime drama, which centers on Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) coming up with a plan to break his brother Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell) from prison for a crime he didn't commit, comes from creator Paul Scheuring. Prison Break earned critical acclaim for its earlier seasons and later seasons earned mixed reviews. But as a whole, it's a great series that thriller fans love.

If you're worried that Prison Break will fall victim to the streaming curse and no longer be available to watch anymore after leaving Netflix, you already have another place to watch the complete series. All five seasons remain available on Hulu, and if you have a Disney+ bundle subscription, you can watch it on that streamer, too. That's the silver lining about the series making its break from Netflix.
