When it comes to Netflix new releases coming throughout the rest of 2025, most of us are probably thinking in terms of the streamer's upcoming original series. I mean, when we still have the three-part Stranger Things season 5 release on top for the holiday season, that's pretty much pulling all of the focus. But there are some exciting movies that are still to come on Netflix this year.
Case in point, this fall brings A House of Dynamite, the highly anticipated new movie from Academy Award-winning The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty director Kathryn Bigelow. It's the director's first movie since 2017's Detroit and her first collaboration with Netflix. It's by far one of the can't-miss film events of the year. Below, we're sharing what fans need to know ahead of the premiere!

A House of Dynamite release date on Netflix
Kathryn Bigelow's political thriller A House of Dynamite makes its global streaming debut on Netflix beginning on Friday, Oct. 24, 2025. As with all Netflix movie releases, the film is expected to drop at 3 a.m. ET / 12 a.m. PT, making the movie available to watch beginning Friday morning, surely becoming one of the biggest new movies on streaming the weekend of its release.
For those hoping to watch Bigelow's new movie on the big screen, Netflix will give A House of Dynamite a limited theatrical release in the United Kingdom on Oct. 3 and in the United States on Oct. 10, both being far in advance of the film's streaming bow. The movie will also premiere and compete for the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival on Sept. 2.

Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson lead the cast
For her major comeback movie on Netflix, Kathryn Bigelow assembled quite the cast of talented stars and familiar faces. The cast of A House of Dynamite is led by Luther star Idris Elba and Dune star Rebecca Ferguson and also features Netflix favorite Gabriel Basso, who we of course know from hit action series The Night Agent. Check out the movie's full cast below:

From the first-look photos Netflix has released (as of Aug. 27), we have already seen sneak peeks at Rebecca Ferguson, Anthony Ramos, Gabriel Basso, and Kyle Allen in action as their characters, but we have yet to see huge stars like Idris Elba, Greta Lee, and Kaitlyn Dever in their roles. Character names for most of the cast have not yet been revealed, but surely will be soon.
Additionally, Netflix hasn't released a teaser or trailer for the movie, though one should be expected to arrive following the movie's premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. Keep your eyes peeled on the Netflix socials and YouTube channel for the first official footage!

What to expect from the Netflix movie
In line with Bigelow's Oscar-winning movie The Hurt Locker and Oscar-nominated Zero Dark Thirty, her new flick employs much of the same themes and genres as a political thriller. A House of Dynamite takes place as a missile hurtles toward the United States and various teams attempt to discover the missile's origin and a course of action. Check out the official synopsis via Netflix:
"When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond."
While Bigelow directed the movie, A House of Dynamite was written by Zero Day co-creator and co-writer Noah Oppenheim. The Netflix political thriller miniseries was one of the streamer's biggest hits earlier this year, which seriously bodes well for the forthcoming movie. We should expect a suspenseful, action-packed, edge-or-your-seat thrill ride with excellent performances!
A House of Dynamite premieres Oct. 24 on Netflix.
