Obsession is one of 2026's biggest hits of the year, and it's going to be even more popular very soon.
Netflix recently revealed Obsession, starring Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston, will be released in the United States on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2026, just a few weeks after Halloween. It's easily the best movie coming to Netflix in November. If you haven't seen the highest-grossing horror movie of the year so far, you're going to have an opportunity to do just that next month.
Curry Barker wrote and directed Obsession, which premiered in the US on May 15, 2026. Since then, it's been a whirlwind of praise and hype for this movie. After seeing the movie, I can say that it's definitely live up to that hype!
The movie follows Bear, played by Johnston, who has feelings for his co-worker, Nikki, played by Navarrette. Unable to act on his feelings, Bear buys a weird item, called One Wish Willow, that grants its users one wish. Bear wishes that Nikki was obsessed with him and breaks the stick, locking in the spell. Soon after, Nikki becomes obsessed with Bear in an extremely menacing way. Bear tries to find a way out of the mess he made.
Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, and Andy Richter round out the rest of the cast.
Since its release, Obsession has been a launchpad for many of the big players from the film. Navarrette joined Marvel's new X-Men project as Rogue. Johnston is rumored to be starring in the new Mummy movie, The Mummy: The Book of the Dead. And, Barker's upcoming movie, Anything but Ghosts, premieres on May 7, 2027. Barker and Tomlinson, who also starred in Obsession, wrote the screenplay for the film and star in the film, as well, alongside Aaron Paul and Bryce Dallas Howard.
If you've yet to get obsessed with Obsession, I'm going to give you my pitch for watching the movie on Netflix. Obsession is one of the most unsettling movies I can remember. It's not, like, necessarily scary, to me, but it was definitely disturbing. So, if you like to be unsettled, it's definitely a must-watch. More so, Obsession is one of those horror movies that really makes you think. You're going to leave this movie thinking about everything that happened after, and I mean that in a good way.
Overall, Obsession is just a great movie that definitely deserves all the praise it's been getting since its premiere. It's not for everyone. There are definitely people in my life who I've recommended not to watch the movie because I know they don't like some of the more disturbing elements of a movie like this. For the most part, it's a movie that I would recommend to most people.
Netflix doesn't have the best selection of horror movies, so Obsession should be a welcome addition to the streaming service. While you wait for Obsession to be released on Netflix, I highly recommend checking out horror movies like Smile 2, Until Dawn, The Black Phone, Heart Eyes, The Babysitter movies, the Fear Street trilogy, and Nope on Netflix.
Remember to watch Obsession on Netflix starting on Nov. 17! We'll share more updates about the movie as we find out.
