Best: Pamela, A Love Story
Netflix tends to be very hit or miss with its documentaries, but I don’t think anyone can deny that Pamela, a love story was a revelation. Released early 2023, Pamela, a love story chronicles the life of the iconic Pamela Anderson, and yes, the blond bombshell was directly involved with the creation of the doc and is featured in the film. It coincided with the release of her memoir, Love, Pamela.
As most people know, Pamela Anderson’s rise to fame began with her breakthrough role as C.J. Parker in the long-running series Baywatch and her modeling career, particularly for Playboy. The great thing about the documentary is it gives Pamela the chance to really tell her side of the story and talk about the damaging impact of the infamous sex tape between her and Tommy Lee released without her consent.
Last year, Hulu came out with their dramatized miniseries Pam & Tommy starring Lily James and Sebastian Stan. And while the show did create a much more sympathetic portrayal of Pamela’s side of the story than we’ve seen in the past (especially with the way the media demonized her at the time), it was still created with Pamela’s consent and retraumatized her in a lot of ways.
This documentary is a really touching and thought-provoking piece that finally allows Pamela to set the narrative straight and its been nominated for several Creative Arts Emmys.
