The best time of the year is almost here, and we can hardly contain our excitement! Christmas 2023 is upon us, and we’ve been counting down the days until the day of festivity.
To prepare everyone for the cherished holiday, Netflix has been dropping new Christmas-themed movies and shows. However, we’ve noticed that there aren’t that many Christmas Netflix movies and shows this year compared to previous years. Honestly, the selection overall isn’t that great, but at least it’s something.
If you’re curious about what new Christmas content Netflix has released this year, all you need to do is continue reading because we shared every single one below.
Family Switch
Instead of releasing Family Switch sometime in December, Netflix decided to release the new Christmas movie early on the last day of November. It stars some well-known actors such as Golden Globe Award-winning actress Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms, who is known for starring as Stuart in the hit The Hangover film series. Wednesday star Emma Myers also stars in the comedy film along with Brady Noon, Rita Moreno, Matthias Schweighöfer, and many others.
Based on the book Bedtime for Mommy by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Family Switch follows the Walker family, who after visiting an astrological observatory, wakes up the next morning to find they’ve all switched bodies with each other. Now, they’re stuck trying to figure out how to get back into their own bodies, and while doing so, they find themselves growing closer than they ever thought possible.
Best. Christmas. Ever!
Grammy Award-winning singer Brandy and Heather Graham star as old college friends who find themselves reconnecting after fate intervenes and brings one of them to the other’s doorstep just days before Christmas in Best. Christmas. Ever!. Jason Biggs (Rob) and Matt Cedeño (Valentino) play as their husbands.
Graham plays Charlotte, a reliability engineer who hates her job. She, her husband Rob, and their two kids live a modest life in a small apartment. Meanwhile, Jackie (Brandy) is recently retired and stays in a nice luxurious home with her charming husband and kids.
Every Christmas, Jackie sends out a holiday newsletter detailing her family’s recent accomplishments, making Charlotte feel like her life is boring. Charlotte refuses to believe that Jackie’s life is as perfect as she makes it seem. So, when she and her family unexpectedly find themselves stuck spending the holiday with Jackie and her family, she makes it her mission to uncover the truth.
Christmas as Usual
Christmas as Usual is another one of the new Netflix movies that was released this year and is Christmas-themed. It’s a Norwegian Netflix original film starring Ida Ursin-Holm and Kanan Gill as a recently engaged couple who decide to spend Christmas with family for the first time.
Ida plays the role of Thea while Kanan portrays the role of Jashan. Thea and Jashan come from two very different backgrounds. While Thea is of Norwegian descent, Jashan is of Indian descent. After Thea and Jashan get engaged, they decide to spend the Christmas holiday with Thea’s family in Norway. This would be Jashan’s first time meeting Thea’s family.
Thea attempts to do everything she can to make Jashan fit in with her family, but tensions begin to rise and chaos ensues when cultural traditions clash.
Virgin River season 5 part 2
If you’re not a faithful watcher of Virgin River, you’re probably wondering why I put this show on the list. Well, the second and last part of season 5 included two Christmas-themed episodes.
There was a time jump of a few months, landing the show around Christmastime. In Virgin River season 5 part 2, we see the citizens of Virgin River participate in the town’s annual Christmas tree decorating contest. Meanwhile, Mel and Jack embark on a journey to find Mel’s biological dad.
After an explosive fifth season, prepare yourself for an even better Virgin River season 6, coming to Netflix in the near future.
