Pretty Smart

Seasons: 1

Created By: Jack Dolgen & Doug Mand

Starring: Emily Osment, Gregg Sulkin, Olivia Macklin, Cinthya Carmona, Michael Hsu Rosen

The Netflix original sitcom Pretty Smart premiered in October 2021 and, for some, quickly became one of the most underrated shows of the year. For others, the comedy probably ended up in the “skip” pile with so many other huge Netflix originals taking up space during the fall season.

Young & Hungry and Hannah Montana alum Emily Osment leads an excellent ensemble cast as stuffy academic Chelsea, who exhausts all options and must move in with her bubbly sister, Claire, and her three equally eccentric roommates. It’s a true fish-out-of-water story.

While Pretty Smart isn’t the best show, or even sitcom, you will ever watch, it’s full of the heart and humor we all crave from feel-good comedies. Critics weren’t kind to the sitcom, but that’s not a total shock since multi-cams aren’t typically well-received these days.

However, anyone looking for a light laugh should give Pretty Smart a chance. Allow the cast blow you away with their comedy chops, and get hooked by the season-ending cliffhanger. Sadly, we’ll never see what became of that jaw-dropping cliffhanger since Netflix canceled the series after one season. It’s still worth watching for what could have been!
