Anatomy of a Scandal
Seasons: 1
Developed By: David E. Kelley and Melissa James Gibson
Starring: Sienna Miller, Rupert Friend, Michelle Dockery, and Naomi Scott
When the Netflix anthology series called Anatomy of a Scandal was announced, we were definitely interested. The premiere season is based on the book of the same name by Sarah Vaughan, which tells the story of a marriage that’s broken by an affair and years-long secrets that quickly come to light.
When Sophie (Miller) finds out that her husband James (Friend) had a months-long affair with a young woman, more and more becomes exposed about their past and James’ horrendous wrongdoings.
Though Anatomy of a Scandal does have promise, once you tune in it becomes apparent this is not a quality show. The acting is fine, but there’s a ton of cheesy editing that makes the show comical when it’s not supposed to be. The sensitive topics are not treated right, and the story is drawn out across six episodes when it could’ve been half as long. Maybe a movie would’ve been a better medium.
Anatomy of a Scandal was released on Netflix on Friday, April 15. We do not recommend it, sadly.
