Gamers were cautiously optimistic about the recent Resident Evil series on Netflix before it premiered, however the general consensus is that it disappointed. The live-action show is loosely based on the video game of the same name, though many people were frustrated with the amount of changes that were made.

Resident Evil follows two main timelines as we see what happens to twins Billie and Jade Wesker in both present-day and the year 2036 where zombies called “Zeroes” roam the Earth. It’s an interesting premise, but this one is probably skippable for a couple of reasons.

When Resident Evil premiered on July 14, it was met with pretty bad reviews. According to NME, it’s now one of the worst-rated Netflix originals, with a 52% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes and an even worse 26% audience score.

Another reason you shouldn’t be rushing to watch Resident Evil is that it was canceled. This wasn’t surprising given the critical response, although a report from Deadline claimed the series debuted at number 4 in the Nielsen streaming rankings during the week of July 11-17, with 858 viewing minutes. Overall, however, if you haven’t seen the show yet, you’re not missing much.

Verdict: SKIP
