After years and years of developmental hell, The Sandman finally got a live-action series. The new Netflix show is based on the popular comic book series of the same name by Neil Gaiman, and fans will be happy to know that Gaiman was very involved in creating the adaptation.

The Sandman follows protagonist Morpheus (Sturridge), the ruler of Dreams who is captured by mortals for over 100 years. When he’s finally free, he returns to his realm to find out that a lot has changed in both the Dream World and the Waking World since he’d last been home.

The TV show does a great job blending tones and genres, similarly to the comics, and has gotten great reviews since its debut on August 5. According to Variety, the 10-episode season was watched for an impressive 69.5 million hours in the first three days and quickly found itself in the number one spot on Netflix’s Top 10.

At this time, we know The Sandman will return for more episodes, though Netflix is not calling it a second season. Gaiman fully intends on making this a multiple-season show, so fingers crossed that happens!
