Kaleidoscope

Seasons: 1

Created By: Eric Garcia

Starring: Giancarlo Esposito, Paz Vega, Peter Mark Kendall, Rufus Sewell, Jai Courtney, Rosaline Elbay, and Tati Gabrielle

The first Netflix show released in 2023 was Kaleidoscope, a heist anthology series that debuted on January 1. The draw for this one is that it’s a completely unique viewing experience, with Netflix users receiving the episodes in their accounts in different orders. That means you can watch the show in any order and still follow the story and mystery of the big heist.

Although that’s fun, the storyline itself completely falls short. It seems Netflix focused too much on the gimmick rather than developing the actual plot, which is a shame. Star Giancarlo Esposito is certainly a strong lead, but even he can’t save Kaleidoscope. The dialogue is messy and sometimes cringe-worthy, some of the plot points don’t really make sense, and overall most of it is very unrealistic. I’m all for suspending your belief for a good story, but this isn’t one.

Kaleidoscope started the year off on a disappointing note, and we’re hoping the shows on Netflix only get better from here!
