The Diplomat

Seasons: 1

Created by Debora Cahn

Starring: Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, Ato Essandoh

As soon as Netflix announced The Diplomat with Keri Russell in the leading role, we were sold. Who wouldn’t be immediately on board with a political drama series starring the Golden Globe-winning, Emmy-nominated star of Felicity, The Americans, and tons of iconic movies?

Russell stars in The Diplomat as Kate Wyler, who becomes the ambassador for UK in the midst of an international crisis. It’s not an easy job by a long shot, but add on a tense marriage to a fellow diplomat, and you have a recipe for a stressful eight-episode series you won’t be able to stop binge-watching.

When the series was released on Netflix on April 20, the whole world seemed to agree. While the series remained in the top 10 as of May 2023, the streaming service quickly renewed The Diplomat for season 2 less than two weeks after its premiere, following suit with fellow quick renewal The Night Agent the previous month.

Now that we know that a second season will be coming, whenever that may be considering there’s a writers’ strike delaying production for most television shows and movies, there’s no denying that The Diplomat’s a definite must-watch. If you loved The West Wing, The Recruit, and even Netflix’s own House of Cards, you’ll also love the equally thrilling but also fun new series!

Verdict: WATCH
