Home Team

Release Year: 2022

Directed By: Charles Kinnane and Daniel Kinnane

Starring: Kevin James, Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider, Jackie Sandler, Tait Blum, Gary Valentine, Maxwell Simkins, Chloe Fineman

If you’re a fan of Kevin James and his comedy, then you have probably already watched Home Team on Netflix. Maybe even more than once. The sports comedy premiered in January 2022 and wasn’t particularly well received by critics, but that’s par for the course for a comedy that hails from Adam Sandler’s production company. Fans loved it anyway!

Home Team stars Kevin James as New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton following his suspension from the NFL only a few years after winning the Super Bowl. Without a major football team to coach, Sean returns to his hometown in Texas and coaches his 12-year-old son’s middle school football team, which is much easier said than done.

The sports comedy also stars Twilight actor Taylor Lautner and a few usual suspects in Adam Sandler productions, including Rob Schneider. Although Kevin James didn’t quite find a hit with his one-and-done Netflix sitcom The Crew, the movie performed well in spite of its lackluster reviews.

Unless you’re inclined to watch sports movies or are a big fan of James’ work in such popular titles as The King of Queens and Grown Ups, you’re probably not seeking out Home Team for your watch list. In that case, we would suggest skipping this one for another Netflix original comedy that might be more your speed like Red Notice or The Royal Treatment.

Verdict: SKIP
