One of the biggest Netflix movies of the summer of 2022 was Spiderhead, a sci-fi thriller that debuted in June. For many, the draw of this movie is that Thor star Chris Hemsworth portrays the main character, but it’s so much more than just another action film. The Netflix Original is based on the short story “Escape from Spiderhead” by George Saunders.

In this gripping drama, two prisoners in a penitentiary have agreed to become test subjects in exchange for a shorter sentence. Their experiments include taking a variety of different drugs for scientist Steve Abnesti (Hemsworth) to study their behavior. The story is pretty wild and the ending will leave your jaw dropped! Plus, Hemsworth gives a really strong performance.

Director Joseph Kosinski had quite a successful year after having also helmed the new Tom Cruise sequel, Top Gun: Maverick.

Spiderhead won’t change your life and probably won’t become your new favorite movie, but it’s certainly entertaining enough to give it a watch.
