The Mother

Release Year: 2023

Directed by Niki Caro

Cast: Jennifer Lopez, Joseph Fiennes, Omari Hardwick, and Gael García Bernal

The Mother premiered on Netflix on Friday, May 12, 2023, and it’s one of the biggest and best Netflix movies of the year so far.

The Mother stars Jennifer Lopez as “The Mother,” an assassin who returns to her old ways to protect her daughter that she was forced to abandon when her daughter was young. We’ve seen a few Netflix movies like this, but this one is solid. While the Netflix original movie isn’t as good as some of the great action movies we’ve seen on Netflix so far (The Old Guard, Extraction, Gunpowder Milkshake, etc.), action movie fans will be entertained by this one throughout.

Look, if you’re looking for a drama that won or will win a bunch of awards, this is not that movie. If you’re more interested in an action movie with a weak story, a talented cast with solid performances, and big action sequences, The Mother is the Netflix movie to watch right now.

Overall, The Mother is one of the most-watched Netflix movies of 2023.

Verdict: WATCH (it’s a Jennifer Lopez action movie! What more could you want?)
