Lift had a big job to do as Netflix's first big original movie of the year and sadly, it ended up falling short. Despite boasting a great cast with stars like Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kevin Hart, Sam Worthtington, and Vincent D'Onofrio. A heist comedy, Lift follows an international crew who try to pull off a huge heist on a plane while it's mid-air.
Lift is a glossy, big-budget action film and it comes off like a fun, mindless watch, which it is, but it fails to be very entertaining unless maybe you're a die-hard fan of the cast and subject matter. Overall, Lift just feels very stale. The script is lazy and there's nothing in it that we haven't seen before executed better in superior films.
Even if you just want an action-packed blockbuster to relax and watch popcorn to, there are way better options on Netflix itself. Ultimately, Lift's biggest crime is that it's super forgettable and almost feels like it was written by an AI with how by-the-numbers it keeps to a familiar algorithm.
