Heart of Stone

Release Year: 2023

Director: Tom Harper

Cast: Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, Alia Bhatt, Sophie Okonedo, and Matthias Schweighöfer

Heart of Stone is an above-average espionage thriller on Netflix. It doesn’t break any new ground or reinvent the wheel, but it’s an entertaining action movie that will keep you hooked from start to finish despite its slightly over-long runtime of 2 hours and 5 minutes.

Gal Gadot is charismatic as the lead, though not quite as compelling as she is in DC’s Wonder Woman films, and her co-stars tend to outshine her, particularly Jamie Dornan and Alia Bhatt (RRR), but Heart of Stone is still rather charming and serves its purpose as a fun, late-summer, popcorn movie just fine. It’s not on par with Extraction, but it’s certainly a step above other recent Netflix action movies like The Out-Laws and The Mother.

Gadot plays an international superspy named Rachel Stone. Rachel works for a clandestine peacekeeping operation contending with a skilled hacker intent on getting access to the organization’s most powerful weapon, one that could be extraordinarily dangerous if it were to fall into the wrong hands. Tasked with doing whatever it takes to prevent the weapon from falling into the wrong hands, Rachel must go above and beyond to beat the odds stacked against her.
