Fair Play
Release Year: 2023
Director: Chloe Domont
Cast: Phoebe Dynevor, Alden Ehrenreich, Eddie Marsan, and Rich Sommer
Bridgerton‘s Phoebe Dynevor stars in this intense drama exploring gender dynamics in the workplace. Fair Play marks Chloe Domont’s feature directorial debut and she also penned the script. I love supporting female directors and writers, so I was excited for this movie to premiere after its buzzy debut at Sundance earlier this year.
While I do feel like Fair Play still played things a tiny bit too safe, there’s no denying that it features excellent performances and sharp writing across the board. Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich (Solo: A Star Wars Story) are fantastic in the leading roles of a newly engaged couple whose relationship is pushed to brink after one of them gets promoted over the other at their cutthroat hedge fund company.
Fair Play begins with Emily (Dynevor) and Luke (Ehrenreich) on cloud nine. They’re in the prime of their lives and officially engaged after dating in secret after meeting at their job. But their happy bubble gets popped when Emily receives a coveted promotion despite previously telling Luke he was rumored to be in the running. Can their relationship survive the competitive edge that has popped up in their relationship?
