Virgin River season 5 part 1 was absolutely explosive, full of high-stakes drama, reveals, and surprising twists. I still can’t believe half the plot points we got this time around! The beloved Netflix drama returned today for two holiday episodes making up the second part of season 5, and while these episodes aren’t nearly as eventful as the first batch, there’s still a lot to discuss.

Season 5 part 2 focuses on the holiday season as the townspeople gear up for Christmas, but it also gives viewers answers to big questions and new mysteries to speculate about. One of the big storylines that’s introduced at the end of season 5 part 1 is who Mel’s biological father is. And, for those who are super, super curious, we do find out in part 2. But there might be more to the story as the holiday episodes end on a head-scratching note. Let’s break down the ending!

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Virgin River season 5.

As a refresher, Joey breaks the news to Mel in season 5 part 1 that she believes they have different fathers. She found love letters between their mom and a mystery man from Virgin River, meaning Mel’s real dad could very well be living in the same town as her. What a bombshell!

In the holiday episodes, Mel decides she’s going to try and find her real father. With the help of Jack, she tracks down the person who was sending her mom the letters, and his name is Everett Reid. The name doesn’t ring a bell for either of them, and Mel decides to go to his home to meet him. But unfortunately, the man who answers the door pretends not to be Everett. Mel doesn’t believe this because she spots a clue in his home that links him to the man, but she lets it be. Disappointed, she leaves, realizing he does not want to reconnect with her.

Mel decides to move on with her life as there’s nothing else she can do, but the very end of Virgin River season 5 leaves us guessing as Everett appears at her house! Confused, Mel wants to know what he’s doing there, and Everett confirms he is her father. He tells her he’s not the same person anymore since Mel’s mom died, and tells her that she looks just like her mom. Everett then says he has something “important” he needs to tell her. The episode ends there without us learning what he has to say, but of course, fans are coming up with their theories already!

What the season 5 ending could mean for season 6

Now that Mel has her biological father in her life, who she didn’t even know existed until recently, a lot will change for her going into Virgin River season 6. For starters, she’ll want to get to know Everett and will likely spend a lot of time with him. We also need to find out what that “important” thing he has to tell her is. It might be nothing, but knowing this show, I bet it’ll be another bombshell.

The fallout of Everett’s reveal will likely be something Mel has to deal with in the sixth season, whether it’s good or bad. Mel and Jack are also planning their wedding and Mel already asked Doc to walk her down the aisle, so she will likely struggle with the decision of who should do it now that her biological father is in her life.

On top of that, Mel will want Jack to get to know Everett, which I’m sure might be awkward at first. I’m curious as to what Everett’s life is like. Surely other people in Virgin River know him, right? What secrets or surprises might come out about him once the townspeople start finding out he’s Mel’s real dad?

The show just opened up a ton of potential drama and mystery with the Everett storyline, and I’m sure it’ll play a big part in the forthcoming sixth season.
