Sadly, Emily in Paris won’t be coming in December this year and we’re devastated too

If there is one thing that I’ve come to expect from Netflix, it’s that there really is no routine release schedule for most of its original shows. While many shows typically release new seasons annually, there doesn’t tend to be a regular schedule for shows in most instances. One of these few rare exceptions has been Emily in Paris

After premiering its first season in early October 2020, Emily in Paris has become a staple for Netflix with new seasons coming each year just before Christmas with season 2 releasing December 22, 2021, and season 3 dropping on December 21, 2022. The release strategy has made Emily in Paris as close to a Christmas tradition as one can have with Netflix which is why it’s truly so disappointing to know that we won’t be getting a new season this December in time for Christmas 2023.

December 2023 won’t be the same without Emily in Paris

Look, I know some love to poke fun at Emily in Paris and there was a lot of backlash when the show’s first season earned Emmy nominations. Say what you want about the show, but Emily in Paris is one of the most fun shows on Netflix and, really, just in general!

The show’s episodes are short and addictive, yet still pack in so many amazing comedic moments and incredible romantic plotlines that never fail to leave us wanting more.

In releasing new seasons just before the Christmas holiday, Emily in Paris has been the perfect gift to Netlfix subscribers looking for a light-hearted and entertaining show to enjoy over the holiday break, which also serves as a perfect piece of escapism into the glamourous world of Paris when we’re stuck at home during the often snowy month of December.

There truly is no show I look forward to more every December than Emily in Paris, so the thought of not having a new batch of episodes to enjoy this year around Christmastime feels like the TV equivalent of getting coal in one’s stocking.

Sure, I can and will spend this December enjoying past episodes over the Christmas break, but that’s not quite the same as getting a new season.

Emily in Paris season 3 left us with so many questions

Emily in Paris has done a good job of keeping us on the edge of our seats during every offseason, but season 3 definitely left us speechless with a lot to process! Of course, the biggest burning questions all connect and, fittingly, are connected to the complicated web spun by the writers in season 3 regarding the core relationships of the show.

In the season 3 finale, Camille called off her wedding to Gabriel in dramatic fashion leaving him at the altar after telling him the truth about the pact she made with Emily. As a refresher, said pact involved neither of the two dating Gabriel which ultimately led Emily to pursue a relationship with Alfie and allowed Camille to get Gabriel back.

The only problem was that it remained clear to her that Emily still was in love with Gabriel and he was clearly in love with her too, even if neither cared to admit it.

After leaving Gabriel speechless at the altar, Alfie stormed off behind Camille telling Emily that he was no one’s second choice leaving his future up in the air as well.

Just when thought things couldn’t get any messier, during the final scene of the season, Gabriel and Emily caught up in which Gabriel dropped a major truth bomb on her. The real reason Camille returned and they were racing down the altar was that Camille had found out she was pregnant!

What will Camille’s pregnancy mean for her future with Gabriel now that she’s called off the engagement and how might it affect Gabriel’s future with Emily? What’s next for Alfie after his heart was broken at the wedding? Will Gabriel and Emily finally get together and can they make a relationship work after dancing around their feelings?

Needless to say, we’ve been left with a lot of questions to stew over during the hiatus.

We’re hoping Emily in Paris season 4 will release in December 2024

While we won’t be getting a new season of Emily in Paris this December, we’re cautiously optimistic that season 4 will be ready in time for Netflix to drop the next season next December.

Like many shows, Emily in Paris was affected by the writers’ and actors’ strikes which caused production on season 4 to be delayed. As filming was not able to begin in 2023, Netflix has adjusted the production timeline with the current plan being for work on Emily in Paris season 4 to begin in January 2024.

Variety reports that filming on Emily in Paris season 4 is slated to kick off on January 15 with a five-month shoot planned across Paris and in Italy. This means filming should wrap sometime in May 2024 which should give Netflix plenty of time to put the finishing touches on the show in postproduction in order for Emily in Paris season 4 to premiere in December 2024.

Although having to wait another year for Emily in Paris isn’t exactly the most thrilling idea, we’ll be counting down the days until season 4’s arrival and you can bet Emily in Paris season 4 will be at the top of our 2024 Christmas list!
