Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F confirmed for a summer 2024 release on Netflix

Calling all Beverly Hills Cop fans! It’s been a long time coming, but we’ll finally get to see a fourth film in the Beverly Hills Cop film series. It’s titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, or Beverly Hills Cop 4 for short, and we’ve got all the important details about the upcoming Netflix movie to share with you below.

There had been many attempts over the years at making a fourth film (starting in the ’90s), but they had eventually all fell through. Fortunately, we don’t have to worry about this issue anymore because the movie has already been filmed and is scheduled to be released on Netflix in summer 2024.

Australian film director Mark Molloy took on directing duties with Will Beall, Tom Gormican, and Kevin Etten writing the screenplay from a story by Beall. Additionally, Jerry Bruckheimer came back to produce.

Plot

Beverly Hills Cop 4 is considered the third sequel and fourth installment in the Beverly Hills Cop movie series. It’s an action comedy flick seeing the return of Detroit Police Department Lieutenant Axel Foley, who finds himself back in Beverly Hills to solve a California-based case brought to his attention by his estranged “criminal defense attorney daughter.” He also finds himself teamed up with a new partner.

What’s on Netflix provided us with a little more information on the movie’s plot.

"Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills once more after receiving a phone call from an old friend warning that his estranged daughter Jane might be in danger. Quickly making new enemies as he teams up with Jane and her ex, Detective Bobby Tapia, Axel finds himself caught up in a conspiracy stretching between deadly cartels, even the Beverly Hills Police."

"Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy."

Who’s in the Beverly Hills Cop 4 cast?

Obviously, Golden Globe Award-winning actor Eddie Murphy is back to reprise the protagonist role of Axel Foley. There are also some other familiar faces you can expect to see return in their respective roles, such as Judge Reinhold (Lt. William “Billy” Rosewood,) Paul Reiser (Det. Jeffrey Friedman), Bronson Pinchot (Serge), and John Ashton (Sgt. John Taggart).

New cast members include Taylour Paige as Foley’s estranged daughter, Jane, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Foley’s new partner, Detective Abbott. Also, Kevin Bacon joins the cast as an LAPD special-unit officer, Captain Cade Grant. James Preston Rogers (Kurtz), Damien Diaz (Sam Enriquez), Joseph Aviel (Silva), and Michael Camp (Deputy Maples) are also in the cast.

Release date

On Feb. 1, Netflix unveiled its upcoming 2024 series and movie slate, and included in the list was Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. We already knew the action-comedy was slated for a summer release, but now it's been given an official release date! Mark your calendar because Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is slated to land on Netflix on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. As always, you can expect the film to be released at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET on this date.
