Eli Roth, the director behind notorious gorefest films like Cabin Fever and Hostel, is back with his latest offering in the form of the holiday slasher film Thanksgiving, based on the mockbuster trailer from the 2007 film Grindhouse.

Thanksgiving has a pretty standard plot. A murderer named “John Carver” terrorizes the small town of Plymouth, Massachusetts after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy. Expect all kinds of Thanksgiving-related deaths and murders to take place.

The film stars Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Milo Manheim, Jalen Thomas Brooks, Nell Verlaque, Rick Hoffman, and Gina Gershon. It starts playing in theaters on November 17. While it won’t be on Netflix right away, because it’s a Sony movie, we know it will come to Netflix eventually! Here’s what you need to know.

Thanksgiving will eventually stream on Netflix

Because Thanksgiving is being distributed by TriStar Pictures (which is part of Sony), fans can anticipate the slasher coming to Netflix sometime in 2024, likely the first half of the year. If we compare to Sony’s Jennifer Lawrence comedy No Hard Feelings, then Thanksgiving should make its Netflix debut in March or April. No Hard Feelings released in June 2023 and took approximately four months to transition from theaters to Netflix.

Similarly, TriStar Pictures’ last movie, Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody, released in theaters in December 2022 and then came to Netflix in April 2023, so it seems to take about four months overall.

For those who don’t want to wait that long and don’t plan to see it in theaters, you will be able to purchase or rent Thanksgiving from VOD services like Amazon and Apple after it has been out in cinemas for a while. Again, comparing to No Hard Feelings, it took about two months after its June date to premiere on VOD and then a few weeks after that, Sony released the film on physical media.

If Thanksgiving follows a similar trajectory, you should be able to purchase or rent the movie at home sometime in January.

Stay tuned to Netflix Life for more information about Thanksgiving. We’ll be sure to announce when the slasher movie is making its Netflix debut.
