Even though we all love a good, twisty binge-watch of a drama series, everyone needs a laugh from time to time. Thankfully, there are plenty of funny Netflix shows to scratch that humorous itch after you finish watching that dark and mysterious limited series.

Over the years, Netflix has become more widely known for its binge-able dramas, but you can still find a handful of funny shows on Netflix worth adding to your watch list. For starters, George Lopez’s latest sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez has arrived on Netflix for streaming. The streamer also boasts a great collection of classics and throwbacks you can always count on.

However, not every comedy series on Netflix will be the perfect fit for every viewer. Will everyone enjoy the dirty jokes in the hit animated series Big Mouth? Probably not. So, if you’re looking for a comedy to start watching, we’re sharing three shows that are musts and two that are skips.

Lopez vs. Lopez

Watch! The NBC sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez was added to Netflix on Nov. 4 and quickly took up residence in the top 10 as viewers binge-watched all 22 episodes of the first season. In the series, George Lopez stars alongside his real-life daughter Mayan Lopez.

They play the fictional George and Mayan, an estranged father-daughter duo who find themselves living under the same roof. Lopez vs. Lopez also stars Matt Shively, Brice Gonzalez, Selenis Levya, and Al Madrigal. With a second season already on the way, you don’t want to miss this one!

Big Mouth

Skip! The adult animated Netflix shows Big Mouth released its seventh season on Oct. 20, and fans of the raunchy comedy flocked right to the newest episodes. The series continues to bring the laughs and excellent guest stars, though if you aren’t already a fan, it’s unlikely you will be rushing to start watching before the eighth and final season arrives in 2024.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Watch! Although Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt came to an end back in 2019, and then again with its interactive wrap-up movie in 2020, it’s still one of the best Netflix original comedy series you can watch in 2023. The show comes from Tina Fey and Robert Carlock and features The Office vet Ellie Kemper at the top of her game.

Of course, the main cast of the series also included the hilarious trio of Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, and Carol Kane. For four seasons and 52 total episodes, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt served as the bittersweet, laugh-out-loud, and unflinchingly weird sitcom TV needed. Don’t ever skip this one, no matter how many times you have watched.

The Ranch

Skip! Speaking of Netflix classics that are worth rewatching, The Ranch can actually be skipped. If you aren’t already a superfan of the show, you don’t need to rush to watch the Ashton Kutcher-starring sitcom. While it might be one of the streamer’s longest-running shows, there are funnier comedies to add to your watch list, including Grace and Frankie and BoJack Horseman.

The Mindy Project

Watch! In the past year, Netflix hasn’t scored too many hits in the comedy department, with shows like Survival of the Thickest and Unstable still in limbo as of November 2023. But that’s why you can always count on Netflix catalog of acquired hits like Community, Seinfeld, Insecure, The Mindy Project, and so many others.

The Mindy Project still seems like an underrated darling all these years later, which makes binge-watching the Mindy Kaling comedy a must-watch while it’s calling Netflix a second streaming home. The Office writer and standout branched out with her own workplace rom-com, running for six hilarious seasons on Fox and Hulu. Run, don’t walk, to watch this iconic comedy.
