If you’ve been looking for something to watch that’s heartfelt but funny at the same time, you must check out the new movie Quiz Lady. Not only does it have an interesting plot, but it also has an amazing cast.

Quiz Lady is a comedy film that was helmed by Jessica Yu and written by Jen D’Angelo. Yu is an American film director and writer known for winning the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film for her 1996 movie Breathing Lessons: The Life and Work of Mark O’Brien. She also directed episodes of TV shows such as Grey’s Anatomy, The West Wing,13 Reasons Why, Hollywood, This Is Us and The Morning Show.

Additionally, D’Angelo is known for writing scripts for TV shows such as Workaholics and Young Rock. She also co-wrote the screenplays for the movies Hocus Pocus 2 and Totally Killer.

Quiz Lady is a movie following two estranged sisters who are forced to work together to help pay off their mother’s gambling debts. Anne is a homebody who loves her dog and is obsessed with game shows, while Jenny is more of a free spirit.

When Anne’s dog is stolen, she and Jenny come up with a plan to raise the ransom money to cover their mother’s debt. Their plan is to enter Anne into a popular game show called “The Quiz” so that she can become a quiz show champion and win the cash prize.

Golden Globe Award-winning actress Sandra Oh plays the role of Jenny Yum, the chaotic sister. Oh is best known for her role as Dr. Cristina Yang in the popular medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy and as Eve Polastri in the spy thriller series Killing Eve. She also starred in the leading role as Ji-Yoon Kim in Netflix’s The Chair and as Amanda in the horror flick Umma. She is pictured above on the right.

Awkwafina, another Golden Globe Award recipient, plays the other leading role as Anne Yum, the reserved sister. You might recognize her from her roles in other movies like Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Ocean’s 8, Crazy Rich Asians, Jumanji: The Next Level, The Farewell and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. She also created and starred in her own TV sitcom called Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens. She is pictured above on the left.

Sadly, this comedy film is not available to stream on Netflix. It is currently streaming on another streaming platform. We’ll share which streamer it’s on in a second, but first, we wanted to share with you some similar movies that you can check out on Netflix.
