Psychological thrillers are always heart-racing and keep us on our toes. I think that’s one of the reasons I like them so much! The stories are usually intriguing, and they’re just an interesting watch. Lucky for us fans, a new film in the genre, The Marsh King’s Daughter, is coming out. So, is the movie a Netflix Original and being added to the streamer?
Unfortunately, the answer is no. The Marsh King’s Daughter will not be streaming on Netflix. The psychological thriller will make its theatrical release on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023. That means the only way to check it out is on the big screens. Lionsgate is handling distribution, so there’s a chance the film will eventually stream on STARZ, as the company owns the streamer, and that’s where Lionsgate movies usually head after theaters. But, depending on when the movie makes its way online, the streaming home could be Peacock.
According to Collider, Lionsgate already has an existing deal with the Roku Channel. And starting in 2024, “all Lionsgate feature-length releases will become available to stream” on Peacock. Some of those date back to 2022 releases. So it’s not just the new ones. Is it possible The Marsh King’s Daughter could stream on Peacock at some point in 2023? Yes, it’s a possibility. But we won’t know for sure until official word comes from either Lionsgate or Peacock.
In the meantime, if you’re too excited to wait, you’ll want to know all there is about the production. Well, I’ve got you covered. Read on below to learn all the details about the movie!

The film is directed by Neil Burger, with Elle Smith and Mark L. Smith taking on writing duties. This is also a story more for a mature audience. The production has been given an R rating due to violence.
What is the movie about?
The Marsh King’s Daughter is centered around Helena Pelletier, a woman who has a great life with her husband Stephen and young daughter Marigold, per the synopsis. But, she’s hiding a “dark secret within.” What’s that secret? Her dad is the “infamous Marsh King,” Jacob.
Before Helena was born, Jacob kidnapped her teen mother, and that’s how she came to be in this world. For 12 years, she lived in the wilderness with her father until he was caught and set behind bars. Now in the present, he’s escaped from prison and Helena doesn’t feel safe anymore. She fears that Jacob will come after her family. And so, she begins to “confront her secret past” and uses the knowledge he taught her to “hunt him down.” Will she be able to do it? We’re going to find out!

The intriguing film is based on the book of the same name written by author Karen Dion. The novel was published in 2017, and has a 3.9/5 rating on Goodreads. This is definitely an eye-catching tale, and I can’t wait to see how the creative team was able to adapt from page to screen!
