Pain Hustlers soundtrack: All the songs featured in the movie
By Mads Lennon
October 2023 brought us the highly-anticipated Netflix movie Pain Hustlers starring Chris Evans and Emily Blunt. Based on the book by Evan Hughes, Pain Hustlers is inspired by a true story. The film follows Blunt’s character, Liza Drake, as she slowly climbs to the top of a pharmaceutical company through morally ambiguous means. Despite debuting to mostly negative reviews, the cast is enough of a draw that I’m sure the film will still become a hit for Netflix.
Hughes’ book, Pain Hustlers: Crime and Punishment at an Opioid Startup, is all about Insys Therapeutics and its founder John Kapoor, who created a painkiller for cancer patients made with one of the most potent opioids available: fentanyl. The book isn’t just about Insys, but the insidious marketing tactics used by these pharma companies. If you watched Netflix series Painkiller, you’ll have an idea of what to expect.
Pain Hustlers features lots of great music from artists like The Temptations, Spilt Milk, and Mavis Staples. And yes, you read that right, even Chris Evans gets to have some fun with music in this movie as his character performs a rap during one particularly memorable scene.
