Murder Mystery premiered on Netflix in 2019, and it’s the fifth of Sandler’s Netflix movies. Honestly, Murder Mystery was the best of Sandler’s Netflix movies for a long time. It’s much better than the movies that came before it (The Ridiculous 6, The Do-Over, Sandy Wexler, and The Week Of).
In Murder Mystery, Nick and Audrey Spitz (Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston), a couple who is just spinning the wheels, take their honeymoon trip to Europe years after they never went. This time, it’s to celebrate Nick’s promotion from police officer to detective. The kicker is that he just made it up. When they’re approached by a wealthy man, Charles Cavendish (Luke Evans), and asked to join him on a super-yacht on Lake Como, the Spitzes jump at the offer. Unfortunately, a murder is committed on the yacht and they become the suspects. They must clear their name and find out who committed the crime.
Sandler and Aniston have excellent chemistry in the movie, and I appreciate the fact that it doesn’t do so many ridiculous gags for cheap laughs. It’s not perfect in that regard, but it’s a solid action mystery-comedy! If you haven’t seen Murder Mystery on Netflix yet, we recommend it. Again, it’s not amazing, but it’s a good Saturday Night movie.
