6. Fast Times at Ridgemont High

  • Release Year: 1982
  • Director: Amy Heckerling
  • Cast: Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Phoebe Cates, Brian Backer, Robert Romanus, Forest Whitaker, and Ray Walston

Fast Times at Ridgemont High is the oldest movie on this list, but it’s the perfect raunchy comedy for fans of ’80s movies. There are so many famous people in this movie, and there’s no doubt Fast Time at Ridgemont High helped launch the careers of Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Phoebe Cats, and more!

The movie follows a group of teens during the school year at Ridgemont High in the San Fernando Valley The story is told focuses on four individuals: Brad (Judge Reinhold), Stacy (Jennifer Jason Leigh), Damone (Robert Romanus), and Spicoli (Sean Penn). It also includes a big ensemble cast and focuses on individual issues, usually in the romantic department.

Fast Times of Ridgemont High is, in my opinion, one of the most iconic ’80s comedies. If you still haven’t seen the movie, you should definitely check it out on Netflix while it’s available to stream. There are also some killer Fast Times of Ridgemont High references in Stranger Things season 3, which is set a few years after the release of the movie in theaters.

The film is based on Cameron Crowe’s book, Fast Times at Ridgemont High: A True Story. For the book, Crowe went undercover at a high school in California and recorded his findings.
