Neon filming locations: Where was Neon on Netflix filmed?

Musical series Neon on Netflix is a great story about following your dreams and the power of friendship! The show made its eight-episode debut on the streamer on Oct. 19, 2023. And whether you’ve zipped through it or not, you might be wondering where the series was filmed.

That’s always a question I myself wonder about when it comes to my new favorite shows and movies. So I don’t blame you for asking the same! And that’s why I’m here, to give you all the answers. While the story takes place in Miami, Florida, Neon was actually entirely filmed in Puerto Rico. Can you believe it? I couldn’t even tell the difference!

So how did production manage to pull it all off? Co-creator and showrunner Max Searle explained it all to Netflix’s Tudum. Describing the two cities as having a “very similar vibe,” it seemed like it wasn’t too hard for San Juan to play Miami in the series. However at other times, some extra work had to go into pulling it off as production designer Mailara Santana shares with Tudum as well. She wanted to make sure the team could make San Juan look like the current and modern Miami.

Breaking down the Neon filming locations

Neon is centered around three best friends: aspiring reggaeton artist Santi, manager Ness, and creative director Felix. Throughout the eight episodes, we see them at different locations as the trio tries to make it big in the city of Miami. We listed the filming locations below:

• Santi’s first performance at The Club – filmed at Kweens Klub in San Juan, Puerto Rico
• Eduardo’s Supermarket – filmed at Supermercado Agranel 65 in Carolina, Puerto Rico
• Isa’s Rainforest Studio – filmed at Hacienda Campo Rico in Carolina, Puerto Rico
• Yacht Party – filmed at Vivo Beach Club in Carolina, Puerto Rico
• Daddy Yankee’s Swim Week Party – filmed at event space Perla at the La Concha resort in San Juan, Puerto Rico
• Moonlight Beach – filmed at Balneario Isla Verde in Carolina, Puerto Rico
• Isa’s New Year’s Eve Party – filmed at the Coca-Cola Music Hall in San Juan, Puerto Rico

In talking about Isa’s rainforest studio in the series, production designer Santana told Tudum the following about getting the space ready for the show:

"We really wanted to build the studio in the center. Then we built the walls around it so that it felt enclosed. We ended up opening the doors anyway because the view was so grand. It was like, ‘Come on, who enclosed this?’"
