Is Butcher’s Crossing starring Nicolas Cage on Netflix? (where to watch)
By Mads Lennon
Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage stars in his second Western of the year in Butcher’s Crossing, a bleak survivalist film about man vs. nature based on John Edward Williams’ classic novel of the same name. Gabe Polsky makes his feature directorial debut here alongside a script he co-wrote with Liam Satre-Meloy.
Distributed by Saban Films, Butcher’s Crossing is now playing theatrically, but will likely be available to rent or buy on VOD within the next month or so.
The White Lotus actor Fred Hechinger plays a Harvard dropout eager to broaden his horizons and experience the world in the 1870s. He decides the best way to do that is to join up with a crew of buffalo hunters led by an intense man named Miller (Cage). As one might expect, a journey like this one is likely to be fraught with peril, since nature has no reason to bow to man. The scholar’s decision to join Miller’s crew could very well be his last.
You cannot watch Butcher’s Crossing on Netflix unfortunately. The film is only playing in cinemas right now. It could become available on Netflix in the future, but Saban movies tend to stream on Hulu, if they stream at all. We’ll keep you posted if anything changes on that front. Either way, don’t expect Butcher’s Crossing to stream anywhere until 2024 at the earliest. You might be better off renting it digitally as it will be available that way much sooner.
Movies like Butcher’s Crossing on Netflix
There aren’t any Nicolas Cage movies on Netflix right now but there are several great Westerns, including the Oscar-winning film All Quiet on the Western Front. If you haven’t gotten around to watching it yet, now is the perfect time.
Another option for those interested in frontier life is the aptly titled Jason Momoa-led series Frontier and series like Longmire. For films, there’s also The Hateful Eight, Wind River, The Stand at Paxton County, and Montford: The Chickasaw Rancher.
