Bodies is the latest Netflix show everyone is watching and discussing online, even dethroning Mike Flanagan’s acclaimed new series The Fall of the House of Usher to claim the number one spot on the streamer’s overall top 10. Given that, it’s not surprising that fans of the show are curious to know if there might be plans for a second season.

The British thriller series follows a mind-bending mystery revolving around the same body appearing in four different eras: 1890, 1941, 2023, and 2053. In each year, the body of a naked man appears in the exact same location in Whitechapel, London, to be investigated by a detective. Four detectives. Four different timelines. One body. How is that possible?

A mystery unfolding across eight episodes, Bodies is based on a comic book series by Si Spencer that was originally published by DC Vertigo. Given its compelling plot and numerous twists, it’s one of those shows that keeps you hooked and eager to press the “next episode” button as soon as the credits roll.

There’s no need for another season of Bodies

Unfortunately, it’s pretty unlikely that there will be a Bodies season 2. Bodies has been billed as a limited series from the start. It tells a complete story and covers everything from the comics its based on. There isn’t really anywhere for the show to go from where it ends and to continue would ruin what was already established. Bodies wraps up everything very succinctly at the end of its eighth and final episode.

Spoilers ahead for end of Bodies

The only potential hook for another season is in the final scene when Detective Hasan (Amaka Okafor) gets into a taxi and the driver is revealed to be Detective Maplewood (Shira Haas) from 2053, who recognizes Hasan. It’s not really explained how that would be possible, but it seems more like a playful nod toward viewers who might want to continue theorizing on different aspects of the series and its usage of time travel rather than an actual sequel hook.

So, in short, no, Bodies season 2 is probably not happening on Netflix.
