All 5 Mike Flanagan Netflix shows ranked from worst to best

4. The Fall of the House of Usher
The Fall of the House of Usher premiered on Netflix on Friday, Oct. 12, 2023. It’s the most recently released of Mike Flanagan’s Netflix shows. It’s based on Edgar Allen Poe’s story of the same name, but it pulls inspiration from and adapts other Poe stories, as well. No spoilers here!
The Fall of the House of Usher tells the story of, well, the fall of the Ushers. Over the course of eight episodes, we see Roderick and Madeline Usher (Bruce Greenwood and Mary McDonnell), a brother-sister duo and head of Fortunato Pharmaceuticals. When Roderick’s children begin dying in horrifying ways, questions arise.
It seems like The Fall of the House of Usher is a big hit for Netflix. It’s another October release, and it quickly jumped to No. 1 on Netflix and stayed there.
I just have a few issues with the series. The modern adaptation of Poe’s works makes sense, but it felt a little bit silly with some of the names of the characters. I was hoping for more of a Hill House vibe, which is present in the first episode but largely disappears as the series goes on.
