You won’t believe the news we just heard! Ahead of Elite season 7‘s release in October 2023, Netflix has decided to renew the popular Spanish teen series for an eighth season. Yes, you read that right. Elite season 8 is officially happening at Netflix, and we got all the juicy deets about it right below.

Elite is one of Netflix’s longest-running series when it comes to the number of seasons it has. But this isn’t really surprising because everyone loves a good mystery, and that’s what Elite provides.

There’s pretty much a mystery to be solved in every season of the teen series, and we find out who’s the culprit at the end of each season. We’ve also seen the cast significantly change over the seasons. Original cast members have exited the series to be replaced by new cast members.

However, sometimes an original cast member might make their return from time to time. We see this happening now with the return of Omar Ayuso (Omar) in Elite season 7. And it looks like we’ll be seeing another original cast member return in the upcoming eighth season. This cast member’s character has a close relationship with Ayuso’s character. No worries! We shared this cast member’s identity and other information about Elite season 8 below.

Is Elite season 8 the final season?

Yes, this is true. On Oct. 18, Netflix announced that the teen series would be ending with its eighth season. This sad news was recently revealed by series creator Carlos Montero at a press conference for Elite season 7.

Here’s what Montero said about the show coming to an end via Deadline:

"“We are shooting the eighth season, which will be the last season of Élite. We ended on a high note. Jaime [Vaca, co-showrunner for season 7], Netflix and I thought it was time to end it. I say this with great regret because it’s been several incredible years in which I’ve met wonderful actors, we’ve worked with all the directors we wanted to work with and we’ve had the luxury of having Maribel these last two seasons. Élite changed everyone’s life, there are actors who started with us and it has been their springboard to be now world stars, it is happening to this cast and it is a pride to have contributed to that and to know that they have seen us all over the world and liked it.”"

When is Elite season 8 filming?

An official production schedule has not been revealed, but the cast and crew reportedly started shooting the eighth season on Aug. 7, 2023. We’re probably looking at about four months of production before the new episodes move on to post-production. This is how long it took to film previous seasons. So, we’ll probably hear about filming wrapping up in December 2023.

But keep in mind that this is just our opinion on how long we think production will last. It could last longer than four months. We’ll just have to wait and see.

As of Oct. 18, production is still underway.

Elite season 8 cast

There’s one original cast member who’s been reported to be coming back for Elite season 8. The cast member is Mina el Hammani, who played Nadia Shanaa in seasons 1-4. Nadia is the sister of Omar. Hopefully, Omar makes it out of the seventh season alive so that he and Nadia can be reunited in the eighth season.

Netflix also announced two new cast members who will be joining the eighth season cast. They are Spanish actors Ane Rot and Nuno Gallego. However, who they will be playing is unknown at the moment. Also, we can probably expect some of the seventh season cast to return, but we have to wait to see what their fates are.

We’re still waiting on information on the eighth season’s episode count. But we can probably expect another eight episodes like previous seasons. We’ll let you know the total episode count once it’s revealed.

Is there an Elite season 8 release date?

It’s still too early in the filmmaking process for there to be a release date. However, we’re probably looking at about five to seven months of post-production before the eighth season makes its way to Netflix. So if production were to wrap in December 2023, as we mentioned earlier, we could be seeing the eighth season somewhere between May and July 2024. We’ll let you know the official release date once it’s announced.
