Keri Russell made her Netflix debut in a series titled The Diplomat. The complete eight-episode first season arrived on Netflix on Thursday, April 20, 2023. This is one Netflix show you don’t want to miss!

The Diplomat is a political drama from the brilliant mind of Debora Cahn. You might recognize Cahn from her previous work on other political shows like Homeland and The West Wing. She also serves as an executive producer along with Russell, Janice Williams, and Simon Cellan Jones.

Russell stars in the leading role as Kate Wyler, a career diplomat who lands a new job as the US Ambassador to the United Kingdom. But Kate doesn’t believe she’s qualified for the position, nor does she want to take on the role in the first place. She was supposed to be headed to Afghanistan, but the US government enlisted her for the job. To make matters worse, an international crisis is occurring, which Kate now has to deal with in her new position. So how will Kate juggle her new high-profile job while also making her rocky marriage to fellow career diplomat, Hal, work?

Rufus Sewell stars as Hal Wyler, Kate’s husband. The rest of the cast is made up of David Gyasi, Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, Ato Essandoh, Celia Imrie, Michael McKean, Nana Mensah, T’Nia Miller, and Miguel Sandoval.
