The School for Good and Evil

You’re probably wondering why The School for Good and Evil is on our list of the best Halloween movies and shows on Netflix. Well, it might seem like a light film because it centers around the fairy tale world, but it has some pretty dark elements. I highly recommend watching The School for Good and Evil this spooky season. Seriously, I can’t stress this enough!

It’s a fantasy film directed by Paul Feig and co-written by Feig and David Magee. It premiered on Netflix in October 2022, and of course, people immediately stopped doing whatever they were doing to check it out.

Sophia Anne Caruso and Sofia Wylie play best friends who find themselves at odds, and their friendship is tested when they’re kidnapped and taken away to an enchanted school where aspiring young heroes and villains are trained to protect the balance of good and evil in the fairy tale world.

Besides Caruso and Wylie, the cast includes well-known actors such as Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Cate Blanchett, Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh, Patti LuPone, and Rachel Bloom. The cast is also made up of many up-and-coming actors like Jamie Flatters, Kit Young, Earl Cave, Freya Parks, and Alex Cubb.

Although the film is rated PG-13, I believe people of all ages will enjoy it. In my opinion, it’s the perfect movie to watch with the whole family during movie night. It’s action-packed, has a memorable antagonist/villain, the special effects are amazing, and each actor gives an outstanding performance.

That said, it’s not really a “Halloween” film, and it might not satisfy horror fans looking for something a little spookier for the holidays. Still, if the movie interests you, you should disregard the bad reviews about the film and watch it yourself.

VERDICT: Watch
