The Sandman

One of the most recent entries on this list is The Sandman, the live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s popular graphic novel of the same name. This release was highly anticipated by fans of the books, and it definitely delivered. The fantasy series isn’t straight-up horror, but it’s creepy enough to put you into a spooky mood in time for Halloween.

The Sandman follows Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), the anthropomorphic personification of dreams, who lives in the Dreaming world. After he’s captured and held prisoner for over 100 years, he returns to his realm and learns that a lot has changed. With the help of Lucienne (Vivienne Acheampong), the librarian of the Dreaming who had been keeping it afloat during Morpheus’ absence, Morpheus goes on a journey to set things right again.

Along the way, Morpheus reunites with some of his siblings, including Death (Kirby Howell-Baptiste), faces off against Lucifer (Gwendoline Christie), and takes down a nightmare wreaking havoc named the Corinthian (Boyd Holbrook).

Tom Sturridge and the rest of the cast do a fantastic job bringing The Sandman to life. We cannot wait for season 2, but until then, you can watch all 10 episodes (plus a bonus episode!) on Netflix right now.

VERDICT: Watch
