Devil in Ohio

One of the many spooky new shows to come to Netflix in 2022 includes Devil in Ohio, a miniseries based on the book of the same name written by Daria Polatin, with the author also creating the series.

Following a hospital psychiatrist Dr. Suzanne Mathis, Devil in Ohio is all about family, trauma, and the occult. We get to see Suzanne as she meets a patient named Mae, a young woman who escaped a cult just a town over. Mae is very closed off and scared, understandably, and Suzanne tries to help her by starting a new life for her that’s safe and supportive.

However, Suzanne becomes obsessed with helping Mae, and her family feels like she’s putting more energy into her than them. She allows Mae to live with them temporarily, which drives a wedge between her and her husband, Peter.

All while, Suzanne is learning more and more about the cult Mae escaped from through her new friend, Detective Lopez and her own independent investigative work. In the end, it’s revealed that maybe Mae isn’t as innocent as she seems, and Suzanne might be in over her head way more than she initially believed.

Devil in Ohio is a pretty quick and easy binge-watch, but it’s also completely forgettable.
